Brooke Brown began racing in 2008 after a long break from triathlons. It was in September ’08, when Brooke placed 3rd at 70.3 IM Cancun and qualified for Clearwater that she realized her potential for the sport. At this time, Brooke brought Coach David Williams (from North Carolina), on board to take her to the next level. Prior to Clearwater, Brooke Brown was a self-trained athlete who demonstrated success despite her laxidasical approach to training.
Throughout 2009, Brooke Brown won several local races in Ontario ranging from sprint to ½ ironman distance. Brooke raced IM Louisville that same year, racing a 11:12, she was not terribly disappointment, but had not achieved her goal to qualify for Kona. With relocating to Halifax (Nova Scotia), Brooke Brown went into this race undertrained and knew that her chance for qualifying were slim. Nonetheless, she had an amazing time at the race.
In 2010, Brooke Brown set higher goals and expectations, all of which she achieved. After taking a 7 month break from the sport to complete her masters, Brooke set out to race IM Zurich in sub 10:45. With only 3 months of training and on a rental bike (that was not adjusted properly to her height & minus race wheels) she finished in 10:38 (25th overall, 10th age group). Throughout the summer, Brooke won various races throughout Ontario from sprint to half-ironman distance races of which she used for training. In September, in Edinburgh, Scotland Brooke Brown finished 17th overall, and 6th in age group at the World Duathlon Championship EDI (2:26:32 (10km 39:15, 40km 1:24:38, 5km 19:54)). Brooke's goal at this race was to do race sub 40min (10km) and sub 20min (5km). Lastly, before heading to Cozumel, as part of her training she raced a 1:27 half-marathon (1st female) in hilly Nova Scotia, on a windy day.
